wave recording problems

I`m having problems recording to wave files,the quality
is very poor, loss of treble , very dull sound, this happens when `i`m recording at 44100 mhz, if i record
at 4800mhz the sound is perfect, but i then cant transfer to CDR because its the wrong format, i have
only 24mb ram processor 200mhz k6-2 please help
