I use that sound quite a bit. If you have seen them, you will notice that Rich Robinson uses a telecaster with a Gibson PAF in the neck position. Keith Richards also used this setup. I built one like it with a brand new American Standard Telecaster, and I put a Seth Lover PAF reissue by Seymour Duncan in the neck position, and a little tele '59 also by Seymour Duncan in the bridge position. Next use the open G tuning (D,G,D,G,B,D). This gives the trademark Crowes rythm sound. I use a Marshall JCM 900 Dual Reverb, and that does a real good job of getting that sound. A Fender Twin Reverb might get a little closer, but I prefer the Marshall. Also, keep in mind that Jeff Cease played a standard E tuned Les Paul, and played different versions, or complimentary rythms to Chris, so this added quite a bit of thickness to their sound. Jeff also played the leads. In order to get their sound with one guitar player, most of the leads have to be transposed so you can play them in open G tuning. Some may be impossible to duplicate in that tuning. Good luck... Great choice for sound....
