1) If your happy with your electric, keep it. You can vastly improve your sound with good pick ups or with just an amp change. I don't have any great advice on pick ups, (maybe someone else does)so I'll go on to amps.

2)am familiar with your Crate amp. I have never liked the way they sound. not very natural. The music store I go to all the time lets me try out gear at home for a week or so before buying it. Any good store will do the same for you if you give them a credit card #. If you do business with the same store all the time like I do, they just let me walk out with what I want to try with a signature. I tried about 6 amps before settling on one. Everyone has a different opinion on amps, just pick one that sounds great with your guitar and your style. As far as more powerful, are you not running through a PA? Are you using your amp as a monitor? Last but not least, maybe you need to look into some effects to get the desired sound.
A multi effects unit might do the trick.

3)Acc/Elec. Ovations have always sounded good amplified. Otherwise, if you already have an acoustic, buy an acoustic pick up, like a Dean Markley sound hole pick up. I've had good luck with mine over the years. Spending lots of $$ isn't always the best answer.(it helps though) I'm sure you'll get lots of other opinions, trust your ear.
