: I have never even attempted to play the acoustic guitar...but desprately want to learn. What type, exactly, should I start with. Eager to buy my first guitar...but I haven't a clue where to start.

Try a few - in a shop, or guitars belonging to friends. I know its difficult when you don't really know what you're looking for, but you'll probably still find some nicer than others, even if you can't put your finger on what it is exactly. It doesn't matter what it is about them, really, as its all so subjective anyway. So long as you don't buy the absolute cheapest thing you can find you'll probably come up with something that's okay for learning on. You should find that any decent music shop will give you a bit of advice anyway. If in the future you begin to take it very seriously then you might want to trade up, but that's probably a long way off and I don't think that should guide your choice right now (unless you've won a lottery recently in which case buy what you like - I'd love a Paul Reed Smith, while you're there) Good luck, and have fun.
