Exactly what I did...I didn't buy 7-string strings, though, just a heavy set of 6 (11-48). we have about three tunes that we play in this tuning (including a cover of Dream Theater's "The Mirror") and it works fine....It has even opened up my soloing ideas on the uppper neck.
