Your best bet would be to go to a music store and try out as many guitars as you can (in your price range) and then decide. I say "in your price range" because if you pick up an expensive guitar most likely you will not be able to put it down and then you will find that nothing that is affordable to you will ever play as good. (I am assuming you are not a rich millionaire and can afford to buy a guitar that costs several thousand dollars...sorry if I am wrong). Start with somethimg simple. I would suggest a Fender Mexican Strat. They are good first electric guitars. They are well-made and play pretty good. They have a pretty good tone too. Those will cost around $350-400.
