: How do you you feel about your favourite bands and musicians throwing their $0.02 into the ring and campaigning on behalf of a presidential candidate?
Curious that the accompanying article should focus on conservatives who are so upset / surpised that their bands are liberal. Obviously haven't been paying a lot of attention now, have they? Also, the idea that music artists are in over their head when they enter the political arena is ridiculous. The American democratic process is supposed to be inclusive (opps, sorry, forgot about The Patriot Act). Furthermore, the idea that music and politics should be kept separate can only be based on ignorance. Where do these people think the Blues can from? Folk music? ("This machine kills fascists" was written on Woody Gutherie's guitar, bless him.) Punk? (without which, there would be no Pearl Jam or REM). Music and politics is an American tradition that dates back over a century. Finally, on a personal note, anything that prevents the re-election of Bush would be welcome. "Fahrenheit 9/11" should be distributed free to every home. Everytime my band sings Pearl Jam's "Not For You", we sing the end chorus "George Bush, Fuck You." Thanx for this opportunity.
