guitar body customization.....

: Ok, this may sound odd, but this is incredibly serious. I've got a little Harmony guitar that I really want to mess with. This little guitar has been through hell and I don't want it's journey to end just yet, but I want to re-vamp it. Here's my problem....I need to know if cutting the body would damage the sound. What I mean is completely reshaping the body near the bridge. I need to know if I could cut some of the body away and it not damage the sound of the guitar.
