Ibanez make great guitars for guitarists. They tailor the instrument to complement players who want to develop their technique and consequently have thin necks, ideal for beginners. Value depends on what level you want to buy in at... something like the Ibanez JS2000 goes for around £1200 where as their entry point RG model will typically go for around £499. Definitely better guitars for playing than Gibson or Fender, although it's true that these will hold and sometimes increase value. Having said that, top of the range Ibanez guitars have held their value for at least the last ten years. I'd by an Ibanez every time!
