First of all, get yourself a backup guitar so when this happens you have something to fall back on.

I recommend Spretzel Locking Tuners. You don't have to bother with looping the string around the post. Just slide the string thru the hole. Tighten the lock on the back of the tuner. Tune to pitch. That's it!
