As of 1st January 1998, this site has effectively split in two. The 1000 guitar links I've added in 1997 can still be found at Great Guitar Sites on the Web, but many new links will now go into the 2000 Guitars Database. New links will also continue to be added to the original site, which also continues to expand daily.
I invite you all to enter your sites to the 2000 Database, even if they were previously listed on this site in 1997. I can't hope to retrospectively re-enter all the data - I'm relying on your help - over to you! |
You can now submit your site online, to the *ALL NEW* 2000 Guitars Database. Entries aren't updated immediately, only after approval by the Webmaster, but you control the content of the entry. You can enter a long blurb, including HTML tags (e.g. IMG & EMBED ) as well as references to images and midi files on your server! Take a look at the source code of the Hendrix Midi entry or that for the Ventures, for example HTML |
| The 1998 Guitar Database was renamed the "2000 Guitars Database" on November 8, 1998. Why the name change? To reflect the fact that there are now 2000 Guitar links on the site - over 1000 in the database and another 1000 on static HTML pages - and also to acknowledge that the database will be here till the year 2000 and beyond! |

Tablature - a site that is mainly guitar &/or bass tabs (tab FAQ here)
Resources - a site mainly comprising many links to other guitar sites (such as this site!) Guitars - a site mainly about guitars, either a personal homepage or commercial site with original content, but not a store, manufacturer, band, tuition or general music site Tuition - a site mainly concerned with tuition - either selling a tuition product, or providing helpful info to those starting out Bands/Artists - sites about a particular band or artist/guitarist: classical performers, country, rock, punk, jazz, alternative, reggae, all are welcome. Could be a fan or tribute site, individual Band/Artist CD promotion page, or official band homepage Stores - shops selling mainly guitars - old & new - guitar effects, amps, music books, CDs etc Makers - luthiers, commercial manufacturers of guitars, amps & effects, eg Fender, also tribute sites, e.g. Rickenbaker Music - none of the above, but still of interest to guitarists: software, midi, studios, associations, musicians health & safety and general music sites (but only if theyre AMAZING - remember this is a GUITAR site!!!) |
| You may select multiple categories (if appropriate) BUT... as only ONE category can be selected with each submission, you will need to submit a seperate entry for each category. You don't have to re-enter everything, though. Just use your browsers "BACK" function to return to your page. Select a different category from the drop-down box & re-submit, after changing any other text, as appropriate. |
| Yes, please do, but only in the "Blurb" section, or the tags could crash the database! (please also avoid using # in font colors). You can refer to images and sounds on your site (IMG SRC, EMBED, BGSOUND etc.), just enter the FULL URL, not relative path, as you can't upload the actual image & sound files to my server. Take a look at the source code of the Hendrix Midi entry or that for the Ventures, for example HTML |
| Please be patient! The database server ("dargo") can be slow to respond... don't be tempted to click twice, as this will interupt & cancel the processing of your first request! The dargo database server could be down, of course... then you'll just have to revisit when the techies at Vicnet have fixed it! If dargo seems to have been down for hours, though, you could mention it to Vicnet Web Help | Of course, it may have been submitted successfully, but not approved by the Webmaster (that's me, Neil Shedden). This could be either because it was deemed not appropriate to this site, or because I haven't processed it yet (could take 48 hours). If you're concerned, or have any other comments, email me.
