Hi again, I trust all is well.

I think you’ll enjoy this week’s lesson; it’s a finger style rendition of Van Morrison’s classic ‘Moondance’. I doubt there’s a band in the whole wide world that doesn’t have a version of this in their repertoire. I’ve done my own arrangement for finger style guitar, verse and chorus, and it’s not for beginners. This is another one for the ‘Beyond’ section of GfB and B.

Guitar for Beginners and Beyond is where you’ll find it, follow the Weekly Lesson link.

I’ll spare you my long-winded promo blurb for my book PlaneTalk – The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. I’ll let a recent customer’s letter to me do the job. This is from Billy:

Thanks, Kirk. I’ve been taking a great deal of pleasure in your book and the slide rule/video. For some time I had been looking for a particular book of fretboard studies by (XXXXXX) that seems to be out of print. In the process I stumbled across your website. Frankly I was a bit suspicious at first… well, maybe that’s too strong a word, but skeptical anyway that something not clothed in the more formal approach to instruction could in fact be as good as you claimed. I must say that you have made a believer out of me! Within a (literal) few minutes I was locating notes all over the guitar with much more fluidity and precision than I had ever achieved with the “brute force” approach ….. I’m very pleased.

Billy isn’t alone in his praise, you can find many more testimonials here. If you’re one of the many players who have got all the basics down but you’re still wondering what the ‘trick’ is to seeing the whole fretboard as one friendly, familiar unit, then do yourself the favor and drop in to read more about it. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed … for the price of a couple of one-on-one lessons, you’ll be armed with the most powerful piece of guitar know-how you’ll ever need. By the way, this has nothing to do with grids or family members or movie stars’ names. PlaneTalk describes an underlying constant that music herself imposes on the fretboard, not some invented story line. PlaneTalk teaches a simple approach to Music Fact (not theory) and how it applies to the fretboard. Click here to go there and find out more.

I’m still plugging away at the ‘Slide Guitar in Standard and Dropped D’ tunings DVD. it’s a huge job and I’m constantly interrupted by other projects, gigs and sessions. I’m getting closer to finishing it off however. Last week I did a workshop on the subject here in Brisbane (Australia) and had a great time doing it. After weeks of working on the video, you can imagine how easy it was for me to do the seminar, which was attended by 60 or so very intent and eager twangers. We all had a great time.

If you are into slide (how could any guitarist not be?), consider joining the Slide Guitar Forum at my other-other site, BottleNeckGuitar.Com … it’s getting to be a goldmine of information. All we need is more members! You can listen to my brand of slide guitar at my SoundClick site.

That’s all from me, til next week,

    Kirk
