I’ve got this guitar in my collection that I’ve been trying to identify for a while now:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v118/turquoisemoleeater/guitars/a10.jpgAt some point in its life this guitar has been “refinished” by someone – presumably “John B” as this name is on the case and also JB is inscribed on the body of the guitar itself.
The “scratchplate” is a glued on piece of red felt! Very odd. The Silvertone logo has in fact been painted on by hand, I assume in an attempt to duplicate the original logo that may have been lost during the refinish.
I’ve been trying to find out what this guitar may have looked like originally. I think it might be something like this which looks very similar although it has different fingerboard inlays (could it be because one is a Harmony and one is a re-badged Silvertone?): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7368318331&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1, whilst this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7368899566&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 is a similar guitar that has also been subjected to a removal of the original finish.
How does it play? Well, it’s a bit of a pig to be honest, but earlier this year I fitted another old f-hole archtop jobbie with a Tune-o-matic style bridge, and I think this guitar could also benefit from the same.
