I just got an old Ibanez 12 string Jamboree acoustic guitar from my grandpa. It has a R and a S surrounded by stars and the number 42216 in gold on the headstock. Inside is a sticker that looks like a seascroll. From top to bottom here is what is has: Constructor de Guitaras, Ibanez Jamboree, Modelo No. 4/627/12, Desde 1908, Nagoya Japon, made in Japan.

It’s a little dinged up and dusty. I’m kinda curious as to when it was made and its value so that I know what I’m holding on to. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

A while back, a thread came up on how to pronounce “Ibanez”. In Japanese, it would be pronounced “eebarnyez” and I did wonder if they deliberately wanted a Spanish sounding name (being the home of acoustic guitars and all that).

DW’s interesting info on the label inside his early acoustic suggests that they were indeed trying to pass themselves off as having some Spanish heritage. Welcome to the board, both, and I hope SB’s info is of use to you 🙂

      Hi DW,

From the model number I would guess the guitar is from the 2nd half of the 1960’s. Unfortunately, I’ve found 1960’s Ibanez litererature pretty tough to come by so it is a bit difficult to document these guitars, especially acoustics. I suggest you look over the 1960’s literature available at 60’s Ibanez and see if they have anything that approximates the style of your instrument.

Good luck with your research, sb
