Hi, fellow guitar fanatic, I’m back with a guitar classic this week: the acoustic picking part to that great tune ‘Can’t Find my Way Home’ by Blind Faith. I remember hearing that for the first time way back when and instantly diving for my guitar to figure it out. It’s in dropped D tuning and it’s really a fun one to get the fingers around. I would class this lesson as intermediate.

Go to Guitar for Beginners and Beyond for that lesson, and about 80 others, all free, all consisting of a movie, tablature, midi files and plain English commentary.

The feedback for my book PlaneTalk – The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book just keeps on rolling in. Here is a short note I received yesterday from Shaowen in Singapore:

I’ve read it twice since I downloaded it. Tried out a couple of improvisations as well. I finally feel like I can play the guitar instead of just following notes without knowing what I’m doing. Thank you! I’ve been praying for something like this.

So, if you’re still at the stage in your playing where you can’t see the forest for the trees, drop into the site and read up on the simple visualization technique that turns your entire fretboard into familiar friendly territory. You’ll be saving yourself decades of poking around trying to piece it all together … I know because that’s how long it took me. That’s to be found at the PlaneTalk site.

If you happen to live in or around Brisbane, Australia, I’m going to be taking part in The Celebration of Guitar Concert, March 5th, 7 pm at the Souths Leagues Club. Jason McGregor, Michael Fix, Ewan MacKenzie and Bron Ault-Connell are the other players. They’re all brilliant twangers, so it should be a great evening. We will of course be doing some jamming together, so … come on down! Phone 3844 7344 for more info.

I passed the 100,000 streams of my music at my SoundClick site the other day … amazing that I can sit here on my Aussie mountain top and be heard by the world at large without a record deal. I love the Internet! Drop in and have a listen, especially if you like slide guitar.

OK, I’ll get back to work … play … whatever!
