Sequels are never as good as the originals, Speed 2 ? Aliens 2 ? Deep throat 2? all duffers, and then of course there is always the ‘difficult’ 2nd album, ‘Whats the Story’ , ‘Reggata de Blanc’ , and so Management have asked me to create a sequel to ‘The Worst Colour/Finish/Detail on a guitar – post them in.’ it has become a bit of a ‘Sultans Elephant’ (a very large beast) did anyone see it in London?
Anyway, part 2 will be easier to manage, so please post all the naffers here, Part one is being put out to pasture.

That is just truly, truly wrong…the curves get fat in the middle and have straight bits randomly and are in the wrong place anyway.
…and is that a knee rest 3inch behind the bridge…? and fore-arm cut also behind the bridge…
I expect to see this on my next work ergonomics course (as a ‘bad’, obviously) Can I vote now for the Halloweenie? 😆
And what’s with the dead-plaice pickup?!
EDIT: and he’s trying to sell it as an ‘Electric-Classical’…that’ll attract exactly the nylon-twangers who will pick up on the dire centre of balance…lucky it’s got that ‘Kidney-hook’ to keep it in place… 😕

Some kind of gibson? jusy to give it a bit of class?

Funnelly nuff, I have seen an “AntonioTsai” guitar (a bass) in the flesh; owned by someone I sold an amp to. They do exist and actually arrive when you order one, the hardware and construction pretty good for the money, but it was pig-ugly.
Seeing as the deadline looms, here’s a quick Fleeb-scour – starting with this sub-Munch Screamer:
http://i13.ebayimg.com/08/i/001/0e/00/510a_1.JPGand another “heavy relic’d” that, according to the auction descn, “everyone asks about”:
http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/11/1c/8905_1.JPG
presumably, questions like “I understand why you set fire to it, but why do you still play it?”and the picture on this bass is called “My Lover”
http://i12.ebayimg.com/02/i/001/0d/e9/462b_1.JPG
so I really can’t wait for the bass with “The bint I didn’t fancy much and turned down for a date” on it.I think this plastic, child’s guitar deserves a closer look:
http://i18.ebayimg.com/07/i/001/14/d1/1acb_1.JPGso here it is:
http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/001/14/d1/1bd1_1.JPG
Now we know where Antoniotsai gets his inspirationJay Turser, normally a maker of innoffensive copies, calls this eyeache the “Warlord”
http://www.music-service.com/images/warlordguitar.gifAn acoustic with no soundhole can look a bit odd, as can double cutaways:
http://i8.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/14/f4/1258_12.JPGbut, when you see that the cutaways contain the soundholes… maybe it’s just me.
http://i14.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/14/f4/3285_12.JPGOne of those awful “tribute by local artist” guitars. Imagine possessing no talent…

Nicely deciphered 1bassleft, that was the final of several drunken drafts, not wanting to cause offence but picking up on the inaccuracy of the image…
EDIT: As for the twin-neck, I’d love to see a useful one executed so well, but the 6/6 ones just leave me cold…you could add a pickup to a 6-string and get the same effect surely?!

That looks very nice, esquire is a strange choice though, for something like this you would surely go for a 3 pickup Tele like the Nashville or Jerry Donaghue.

Yep, I’ve seen one of those (doubleneck Strat Tele). Isn’t there a pic of one on the old Strat Collectors website? (Just checked – http://www.stratcollector.com/ – it’s a Strat/Esquire doubleneck).
There were a couple of Gibson Les Paul/Fender Strat doublenecks made – obviously two guitars that had been joined together. I can’t remember who the main guy was who used one of these, although apparently the other guy who’s got one is Ozzy Osbourne and he’s not a guitarist.

That one is quite nice, nice flow on the body shape, necks do look a bit odd, i wonder if a double neck Tele/Strat has ever been produced, the top half of a Strat with a 62 neck and the bottom half of a Tele, with any Tele neck other than that horendous 50’s one, that would be very interesting, glw will know…

Im not much for religion either, but, i can see this is an exceptional guitar, it looks very well made, high quality hardware, the artwork is some of the best ive seen, not to my taste, but an excellent guitar, worth the money? maybe not, but then you would have to play it first, also have a look on the sellers other guitars, there are some very nice instruments, i agree with 1bass on the ‘Ash AAAA grade’ point, maybe Ash is graded diferently from maple, AAAA might mean its tonal quality rather than it’s flamed presentation, but it hink if you are into Jesus, then this is the way to go.

I don’t see why it shouldn’t be entered into the Halloween line-up. Saying it’s hideous shouldn’t be viewed as some form of sacriliege.
I’m not religious at all (in fact I’m an outright atheist) but even I can walk into a church and admire the magnificience of a stained glass window.
However transferring such a design onto the front of a guitar is not necessarily a good move, irrespective of your own personal beliefs.

Back to that bass, pretty reasonable hardware, too high a price, could see one of the numerous church band bass players liking it but two big Qs:
1] Is it me, or is that block graphic over the fretboard very disconcerting? I’d struggle to judge, say, where the 7th fret was from a casual glance.
2] What is the point of AAAA ash if you then slap all that paint over it? Might as well have been streaky poplar. -

I’ve never read Premier Guitar, and this little Pseud’s Corner review of the Totem Guitar convinces me I haven’t missed anything. Exactly the sort of onanistic ink-spilling my old editor would have beaten me up for if I’d ever submitted such drivel:
From the multi-coursed proto-guitars of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries to Leo Fender’s Eames-like utility of the mid-twentieth century, the combination of art and design has been a constant in the evolution of the guitar. Today, makers like James Trussart combine recognizable shapes with non-traditional materials while others, like Teuffel, ignore all constraints to pursue a singular vision, with the results often looking more like modern sculpture than something resembling a guitar – Michael Spalt’s Voodoo twins, from his Totemguitars line, fall somewhere in-between.
The best thing about that Brian May guitar was its advertizing line; “In Space, No-one Can Hear You Solo.”
As for the strange double-neck, I do like the freeze-frame of the two EMOs gesticulating their opinion of the guitar in the time-honoured, Anglo-Saxon method. But was this approval or disapproval? Wish you’d had a camcorder, glw.
-
June 16, 2008 at 5:45 pm #71793glwParticipant
The doubleneck Strat thing has a metal fretless fingerboard on the lower neck – it also had a Fernandes Sustainer installed, which makes some sense on a fretless instrument, but personally I’d rather it on a single necked instrument.
I think the metal fingerboard was inspired by Vigier Guitars who employ a delta metal (their own alloy) fingerboard on their fretless instruments.
The Brian May guitar was actually on the Brian May Guitars stand so it must be an official guitar, although possibly (and hopefully) a one-off.
-
June 16, 2008 at 3:12 pm #71786lee_UKParticipant
Yet again glw comes up with the goods, the Brian May looks like it was done by a ‘im a bigger Brian fan than you’ type nutter, who has neglected his wife and kids for 3 years in favour of the garden shed and a few tins of Holts paint spray.
The thing behind the sparkly Tele is hideous, only a Hondo II ‘Sting 5H1T’ could even compare on the same level.

That Flying V looks like it’s wearing nasty, wartime stockings that had girls slobbering over any GI with nylons. As for glw’s acoustic, I loved the brief description in the listing. “seule” and “unique” it certainly is, I don’t know why “en son genre” was added as some sort of qualifier. And the “petite fente” is good. A small crack is the least of that plank’s problems. I find it hard to believe that it’s working, unless the seller thinks any strangled twang qualifies as a working guitar. Tasty.

That 12-string has something odd; something I only see on basses. The fundamental string is below the harmonic. That’s OK for finger-pluckin’ bassists, but pretty unusual on a guitar 😕

Here’s one of my absolute favourites, the Flamingo Guitar:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v118/turquoisemoleeater/guitars/flamingo.gif
It’s got five necks if you count the flamingo, and was built by luthier Bernard Lehmann, maker of fine acoustic and jazz guitars, and also oddities such as two dreadnought guitars joined by one neck, a water-powered electric guitar, and a guitar that is part telephone. Unfortunately I can’t find any pictures of those. -

Never mind the ghastly graphics, the ludicrous sales pitch and the uncomfortable feeling that this is a “one only” for a very good reason. I particularly warm to the consolation line for anyone who spunks the close-to $5k required even to place a bid:

I must apologize for linking direct to Fleeb; I haven’t sorted a new imagedumper since Sony pulled out. Anyhoo, get an eyeball on this Sunn Mustang – actually a decent, Indian made license with the bridge HB. Problem is, the owner had a Chili obsession and a Pritt stick:

The 5-string bass developed as a result of synthbass lines. I’m looking at playing “Blue Monday” for school. It’s not pleasant on a fiver, but downright impossible on a 4-string, unless I heavily “mod” (ie, completely ruin) it.
Since I bought a 5er, I find the string useful and not just for audience-colonic-irrigation playing low C at a gig. There are times when it’s nice to stay up at the 9th fret instead of having to zip down to the 4th fret on the E and straight back up again.

And if you don’t like the sound of the precision or Jazz, then EQ it. 😆You watch, it won’t be long before we start seeing 6 string basses being played with a 3 octave neck.. 5 string basses my arse. :x
And you can now get 4-string bass the Warwick ‘Dark Lord’ (grrr! and indeed aargh!) tuned F#, B, E, A…
I kinda agree with you though, TBH. But I think BEAD would be more useful…music has moved on a bit since 1952…

But we didn’t so we can only blame ourselves.

Ah yes, Lee. I’ve just seen where you’d insert your 1/4″…
It reminds me of a live-bar-owning mate who joined a band for encore on vocals. The way he introduced Brown eye’d Girl had every female in the audience retching. As for the nearby vegetation in that pic, I think it’s meant to look a bit penile. Handily for me, I have the delights of discussing testicular cancer with my 16 y.o schoolboys next week (PSHE). I’ll use that pic as a general guide for when they should stop worrying and start running to the doctor’s.
Also, check out that same seller’s “unique” (always a great Fleeb-search term for this thread) fretless bass. Apart from the headstock, appalling neck-body join etc, both the Jazz bridge pup and the strangely askew split P are surrounded by random pickguard. As Lee suggests, pickup routing may not be this chiseller’s strong point.

All that post-Renaissance stuff and an arse the size of Arkansas; is it me or does that control knob on the elbow make it look like the woman has a pair of breasts with a cleavage that Evel Knievel would’ve failed to leap his rocketbike over? What’s going on with the Red Sox? (That’ll get some confusing hits from Googling Boston baseball fans) and there’s the cruelty involved. Looks like a fair number of redhead ladies are now suffering painful, razor gash-rash for the sake of ‘art’. What do you play on this thing? Buck’s Fizz “Merkin Your Mind Up” is the only obvious.

And finally (for today), some of you will have heard of a British luthier by the name of John Birch. He was quite a big name in the 1970s when he built guitars for the top bands of that era, including Mud (the arrow through heart guitar), The Glitter Band (the Star guitar), and most famously Slade (the Superyob).

This looks very much like this a refinished version of this – http://www.sonicstate.com/news/shownews.cfm?newsid=2768 – which I linked on my blog and commented that ‘it’s just another variation on the “tap guitar” concept, and nothing new at all really’ (http://guitarz.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html#114069933319530117), to which the owner replied:
Honestly. Does it look like just another version of a tap guitar??? It seems like people always have to equate something new to something they already know. Why is that? Anyway, that would be a great statement, if I actually tapped on it. I probably will eventually, but that’s just not the sound I had in my head when I invented the thing. Thanks for your interest, however misplaced.
I think it’s quite funny when he says he probably will tap on it eventually, which suggests to me that he hadn’t even decided how to approach playing the instrument when he “invented” it!
You should have seen all the hyperbole surrounding the instrument created by its “inventor”. There were all these press releases about this so-called new invention, which basically was a bit crap.

From the eBay listing:
“Porong†is a mountainous region in Tibet where the monks use their musical instruments to reach and maintain spiritual enlightenment. With that in mind look closely at guitars graphic: The little man (monk?) on the body of the guitar is wearing a backpack and hiking boots, his hand pointing upwards. On the headstock you see what he is pointing to: The mountainous region of “Porongâ€! Look closely at the hat he is wearing: the word â€Porong†is written on the brim of his hat suggesting that his spiritual journey is always on his mind! So what we have here is an instrument that reflects ones “spiritual journey†towards enlightenment via music!

As for glw’s (BTW, I remember Harry Worth in my childhood as the dreariest comedian that my parents insisted on watching) doubleStrat; Tim’s correct. The only sense it makes is as a lefty/righty that my son and I can fight over or play duets with if we lay down on the floor head to foot.

Funnelly nuff, I semi-restored a WEM Rapier bass (WEM made guitars as well as amps) and that was made in the same manner. The neck pocket and pup and control sections were cut out of a top half and then glued onto the back. Once the sides were rounded and the polyester coat applied, it wasn’t obvious until I took it apart. It’s the blue lefty, 2nd one down here:
http://www.watkinsguitars.co.uk/basses.htmIt’s now part of Arni’s vast lefty bass collection and is the fifth one down here:
http://www.leftybass.com/e_start.htmI must emphasize that the Rapier is NOT an “ugly” guitar – I just mention it for its construction. Au contraire, I like the looks (and a natty, adjustable bridge damper). Not hard to see where Burns got their ideas from.

At least you knew where the bridge should go, drew. Some time ago on this thread, I mentioned a lad in Year 11 (he´d have been 15) who wanted to make a bass for his “what they call woodwork nowadays” project. I warned him that it´s no piece of cake but he insisted so I gave him a neck, tuners, pickups and a bridge. Plus a whole lot of advice that I hoped he was taking in while he played on his games console.
Some time later I went into the school and he´d chosen builder´s pine for the body, sliced it through the middle so he could jig-saw the neck, controls and pup pockets rather than rout them and then glued the back half on. Pretty horrific but he´d also gone for some pointy, BC Rich style and I asked for the tape measure. It was a fretted, standard 34″ neck but when I measured 17″ from the twelfth fret, the tape dangled in thin air where he´d cut a big pointy bit out. His teacher suggested screwing in a couple of metal braces across the gap to hold the bridge.
I never saw the finished product. In the words of Marlon Brando, “it could´ve been a contender”

Tim, I think the Testecaster would be a really good toilet seat for those dinky, cohabiting couples, pads? Like that TV razor ad where some square-jawed bloke is bumfacing himself while his “girlfriend” is using selfsame to destubble her pins. Being married, I shout my head off if Mrs Bass fouls up my Morrisons twin-blade with her legskin at 10pm on a Sunday night when the shops are closed.
The next idealistic ad campaign will have square-jaw and “gf” sat back to back on that guitar, just finishing their Forrest Gump, and playfully fighting over the roll of Andrex for first wipe. Advertizing “creatives”; I ask you… 🙄

Apols for putting in yet-another Fleeblink without shifting to a permanent photodump. Still, the deadline is shortly with us and some of these cataract-causers might make the lower reaches of the top 50. I particularly like the maker’s name, “Bell and Head”, and the fact that this moniker (might as well be “Penis Helmet”) is proudly emblazoned on the bodywork. Pause long enough over the auction descn to see the full range of vileness:

Unbelievable that someone spunked 400 quid on that POS. It’s one of those Taiwanese-inlaid-custom things that we’ve often laughed at here, but sold at 3x it’s usual price because someone “relic’d” it and added a “cheeky” (aka copyright busting) headstock logo.

So many targets to aim at…, the Jackson guitar, the “Fresian cow” drumkit, the really awful, “storyboard-by-numbers” video, or just the total banality of the song.
Back to Michael’s, I do like the “heroin-chic” model on the body of the guitar but it’s a pity that Airfix enamels were the only thing to hand when the owner started painting. And they could’ve loosened his straitjacket.

Speaking of Lee, I well remember Emile Zola scoring for Italy in that 1-0 defeat at Wembley. At the time, I thought it might put us out of qualifying for France ’98. I was ready to point the finger of blame at Jack Hughes.

Glad to see you’re getting the hang of 4/4, Lee but, otherwise, your capacity to wince my eyeballs continues unabated.
Miss-spellings is an oxymoron. There is only one way of spelling the term for an unmarried woman and that is “Miss”. Mis-spellings; you’ve had a few, but then again, not too few to mention. Like grammer. Sorry, but that does irk me when I see it. Reminds me (ironically, and with due apols to Tim) of the “Yorkshire Lad” joke:
Stranger at door – “Can I speak to an adult?”
Yorkshire Lad – “There i’n’t owt.”
Stranger – “Where’s your grammar?”
Yorkshire Lad – ” She’s in t’shitter and me Mam ‘n’ Dad is in t’pub.” -

This was posted by glw in the ‘optimistic ebayers’ thread, its an ebay auction,
first read the text then look at the result..Mama always said, dont mess with matches.‘Up for auction is this new Telecaster with a unique relic finish. I bought this guitar here on ebay and i can only tell you what the seller told me. I can upload more pictures upon request.
I have tried it out and found it a lovely guitar to play with a great blues sound to it, excellent for both lead and electric. Unusual “reliced” finish, originally a butterscotch yellow finish. The guitar has had a proper finish since relicing since the guitar is smooth to the touch and none of the black marks rub off.
Specs:
* High quality telecaster guitar built using parts from all-parts.com
* Bridge and pickups are fender japanese parts
* New chrome hardware and nice vintage style tuners
* Unplayed and professionally set up ready to go with nice low action
* Lovely bluesy twang sound, with a warmy jazzy tone avaliable on the neck pickupOverall a great guitar to play, to hear and to look at.
Happy bidding!

To me, pickups routed into holes from the front without mounting rings or scratchplates look really, really naff. Pointy headstocks look totally out of place unless the guitar is of a generally pointy design. This kind of thing…

I think it all changes when you get married, get the mortgage and then have kids, and your mumber 1 priority in life isnt trying to make political changes by going on CND marches and supporting The Anti-Nazi league but you seem to worry a lot more about getting your kids into the school of your choice, and then having to move house to do so.
You finaly realise that all that twoddle the new Labour goverment gave you in 98′ about parental choice was a load of old cobblers, and thats when rebellion takes the back seat.. what the hell this has to do with a Gittler?? well like New Labour it looks on the surface to promise so much, but in fact it delivers so little. 😆 -
