Hello Strangeraver. Sorry to hear of your loss.

After six years plus, Id be surprised if your LP is in any way traceable despite its fairly unique features.

At best, it's fallen into the hands of a complete A- hole, who doesn't know what he's got.

At worst, it's been broken up for parts.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I dont think it's in bits, i bet someone just sold it as it is, if i buy a used guitar i dont check the local police to see if it's stolen, but if i lost one i would do a prefernece search on ebay so that i see every red les paul with a bigsby that comes up, now and in the future.
I take it you have done that?

Hi Lee, I only suggested it being broken up as a worst case scenario.
Six years is a long time in politics, even longer in the music industry. The Ebay thing is a great idea, wish I'd thought of it!. :)

I know six years is a long time... But the internet never sleeps. I can only hope that someone will find it and contact me.

I found it!

No way for me to get it back though, I contacted John and Chris Nelson from Vintage Gear Hollywood when I saw their EBAY LISTING clearly showing my guitar and serial number, (thanks for the idea!) and they first admitted to having it, then changed their story and completely lied to me! Douchbaggery of the worst order! I was able to trace it to a Store in the Netherlands called "Fellowship Of The Acoustics" . it was sold to a guy in a Mark Knopfler cover band.

stolen guitar

Wasn't sure the poster would be around to see that link so emailed the Van Nuys PD ... They probably still have the original report on file with contact info of the real owner. Hopefully it finds its way home !

Found again!

Stolen: Red Gibson 58 Les Paul Historic w/Bigsby serial 8 7145

How can I get my guitar back? It's a red Custom Art and Historic 1958 Les Paul with a factory Bigsby (serial number 87145, 8 7145, 8-7145 )

I AGAIN found my guitar listed for sale on eBay: it is STILL at Fellowship of The Acoustics in the Netherlands. I sent an email to the Dedemsvaart police.

The guitar was initially stolen in Van Nuys in 1999 after a recording session with David Was. ,I filed a police report (Van Nuys Police Report # 990938087)
The guitar surfaced at Vintage Gear Hollywood I showed them my original receipt and police report after they confirmed that they had the guitar, and they then lied to me and said they didn't have it and told me alternately that they both gave the guitar back to some woman in Long Beach, AND that they never had the guitar and said they were selling it for someone at the Pasadena Swap Meet. The REAL story is:

My STOLEN guitar was then sold By Chris Nelson and John Nelson of Vintage Gear Hollywood to Rudi Bults at Fellowship Of The Acoustics in Dedemsvaart, The Netherlands. All parties KNOW it is a stolen guitar, and KNEW THIS WHEN THEY SOLD IT INTERNATIONALLY VIA THE INTERNET.

The Van Nuys Detective asked for the guitar to be returned, but Rudi just ignored the request and kept the guitar... telling me that he had sold the guitar. HE STILL HAS IT five years later!

I have been tracking this guitar since 1999. I know where it is and who currently has it I just cant get it back. Frustrating!

Rudi Bults has my STOLEN guitar (serial number 87145) 8 7145, 8-7145 listed on eBay as:
eBay item number:
"Gibson 58 Les Paul Bigsby Reissue Cherry Red 1997"

(17 years later, but hey, I still got it back!)

Re: Stolen: Historic Red 1958 Les Paul with Factory Bigsby # 8 7145 - LOCATED!

Thank you to the Dedemsvaart police in the Netherlands, the L.A.P.D., and the staff at Fellowship of The Acoustics for helping me to get my long lost guitar back!
