    Welcome to Extreme Guitars’ Ax Facts & Stats. In this edition we get to
    go underneath all the blood, puss and latex rubber of GWAR’s extremely
    talented guitarist Cory “Flattus Maximus”. Cory was nice enough to
    while touring supporting the new GWAR “War Party” effort.

    My name is: Cory Smoot aka Flattus Maximus

    My current job is: musical slaughter/impalement by way of guitar and
    owning a recording studio.

    My current Project is: GWAR “War Party”.

    Former bands: Locus Factor, Mensrea, and Misguided.

    My guitar influences growing up were: Dimebag Darrell(R.I.P),Frederick
    Thorendal, Steve Vai, Tony Iommi,Randy Rhoads, Ace Frehley.

    The guitars I use are: ESP Horizon,AX and MH series,HB Baritone w/Emg 81
    pick ups

    The strings and tunings I use are: GHS,Dean Markley 10-46 guage D#.

    My current rig setup consists of: Crate and Krank Cabs,Marshall JMP-1
    preamp, Marshall Valvestate pro 120/120 amp,Krank Revolution, BBE Sonic
    Maximizer, Korg DTR 2000 tuner, EV wireless, Morley wahs

    The greatest invention for guitars is: distortion and sweepable eq.

    The story behind the band’s name GWAR: The word Gwar has no meaning,
    it’s just more of a sound or what best describes the image of your
    bloodthirsty marauders of metal mayhem.

    My normal song writing process consists of: sketching the music or rough
    ideas on a recording system to present a rough draft piece to the band.

    My most embarrassing moment on stage: playing w/out a banana
    hammock(underwear).

    My first guitar was: a mini flying V kit guitar my dad built with the
    white and red Van Halen stripes.

    If I am only sure of one thing in life, It’s: KARMA

    The one ritual I always perform prior to going onstage is: A Jager Bomb

    The exact moment I knew I would pursue a career in music was: When I
    realized how much the passion for playing music totally took over my
    life.

    The one thing most fans don’t know About me is: underneath the blood,
    puss and latex rubber is a real person. LOL.

    The best advice I could give beginning guitarists be creative.

    The CD(s) I’m listening to right now are: Opeth, Meshuggah, The Tea
    Party, Crowbar, The Damned.

    My favorite junk food is: key lime pie, White Castle cheese burgers

    My biggest pet peeve: Noise if I’m trying to sleep.

    The word or catch phrase I say too often is “OH…..OK”

    The hardest part of my job is: waking up in time for sound check.

    The first thing I do when I come home from touring is: Have sex with my
    girlfriend & pet my dogs.

    My former Day Jobs: installations contractor for Lowes and Home Depot,
    Cooking at Applebee’s.

    Right after this interview I’m going to: I’m going to: go on ebay.

    I couldn’t imagine being on the road without: A laptop and toiletries.

    If I wasn’t doing the musician thing, I could really see myself working
    as: A full time studio engineer/producer.

    My favorite movie ever is: The Party Animal.

    My mission in life is: To help my Gwar brethren in destroying all
    humanity!

    My guilty pleasure is: helping my Gwar brethren in destroying humanity.

    My first band was: Supremacy w/ the drummer of the band Darkest Hour
    when I was like 13.

    My next major step is Stepping all over Bin Laden’s nose.

    The greatest contribution guitars have brought into my life is personal
    escape.
