And as a quick note, i think Bass players should be banned from these events, i once saw and heard a Bass player / Demonstrator plucking away Mark King style on some tarty looking 6 string bass with LED's all over it for an astonishing 7 hours!! he went on from 10am to 5pm, i could hear his un-melodic ramblings for the whole day, p-tuck p-tuck tuck punk, bink bink bink p-tunny p-tick.
Ban em all!

As a bass player I think I can safely say that most of us would like to see the thumbs of such players not-so-surgically removed, they give us a bad rep and sound crap...IMO

I don't believe Mr Wasp accused anyone of 'ptink put put' You appear to be putting words into his mouth (or fingers at least)

On the other hand, I could give a flying duck what Chic did, nasty, nasty, nasty...and indeed, poo.

Can't say anything negative about Bowie or the missus will slap me but the songs you mentioned were IMhumbleO possibly the lowest ebb of his epic career, so yeah, quite possibly.

Back to the German, I actually enjoyed the listen as well as the watch, strangely enough. Anyhoo, typing "Mark King solo" into youtube always produces this sort of bass guff:

Now, it's true; I can't play it. But, I can't hang Rowenta irons from my nipples like some guys can on stage. And I don't want to. Painful and pointless.

BTW, Bernie Edwards, and Good Times in particular, defines proper funk bass. I meant to put that one in the fave bass riffs thread. If you watch him playing (or indeed listen), his thumb stays well away from the strings. I don't object to a bit of thumb per se, but it just doesn't feature in the track. Bernie had the annoying habit of making rather tricky passing runs and quick bends look effortless.
