Alisdair MacRae Birch is a jazz guitarist and educator, and is the
moderator of the Yahoo Jazz Guitar Group where I like to go online to
stay in contact with other jazz guitarists. Besides being a fine jazz
guitarist, Alisdair also has a very comprehensive website with lots of
good teaching information, links, transcriptions, midi files and some
cool sound clips. The Yahoo Jazz Guitar Group is a nice friendly place
for jazz guitar players to hang out and exchange ideas.

Alisdair MacRae Birch has been described as “the British Jazz Guitarist
that people are talking about”. Alisdair is receiving critical acclaim
as a world class musician and his versatility as a performer, composer,
educator and arranger is gaining widespread attention.

Originally from the UK now living in NY, USA, he has performed worldwide
from Big-Band Jazz, through to quartets, trios, duos, and solo in music
ranging from Jazz, to African Highlife, Jazz-Funk, Pop, Reggae, Calypso,
Soca, Zouk and Samba. Known mainly for his guitar playing, Alisdair
also continues to perform and teach his first instruments the Double
Bass/Bass Guitar and Violoncello.

Listed in International Who’s Who, he has worked as an artist in his own
right and as much in demand sideman both live and in the studio. He has
played, arranged and orchestrated many artists music and is a prolific
composer, Alisdair has written music for other performers, advertising
jingles, movies and plays, as well as performing his own original
material.

He is the founder and one of the moderators of the largest Internet Jazz
Guitar, African Music and Band-In-A-Box Software discussion Groups, now
on Yahoo Groups. He has articles published both on music and computers,
performed and interviewed on TV and Radio, played in the theatre “pit”
and on numerous sessions, and taught both privately and at universities
and colleges.

He holds a BSc (Hons) and Masters in Fine Arts Jazz Performance and is a
member of the International Association of Jazz Educators. International
