That looks like an early Victorian vacume cleaner, surely worth more than $70, take it along to the next antiques roadshow and let Hugh Scully take a look at it.

Scully bought one (no kidding) and is currently gigging the LA jazz scene as Tele and the Llamas... read my 200+ cutomers feedback who bought and gig with the Bogdon Box Bass at http://myworld.ebay.com/aje3330/

this is cooler than cool, lesson learned "just do whater crazy idea you have..." 200 multiplied by $70 = something well worth doing.

These basses, and the YouTube clips, have been discussed here in the bass category. I've listened to all of the YT clips. I'd rather have a URB, but I'd rather not pay £1000 upwards. $70 ain't too much to try for fun, IMHO.

the box bass ISNT a replacement for quality materials and fine craftmanship. A standard 4 string upright bass is an awesome instrument. The box bass is a novelty. It supposed to be absurd.
And i think what really makes it fun is that it sounds great. My transducer is the heart of the box bass. I have absolutly no education after detroit highschool, but i have a cousin thats an Acoustical Engineer for an auto maker, and another cousin thats an Electronic Engineer and an uncle that owns a sign making business. Together, we manufacture a crazy musical instrument with the sole purpose of having fun while making music.
We're not going to get wealthy doing this, but i gotta say that this is more fun than all my past gigs put together.
