I’m almost ashamed to admit…I’ve only just discovered Rory Gallagher…OMFG, I love blues anyway, so I like the songs to start with but he just totally locks into it, how could you not love the enthusiasm?

You have to watch both vids though, very different, he just kicks ass! Henceforth I am a huge fan…
Ha! In that acoustic video he kind of looks like a long-haired John Cusack!

Hang your head low in shame young Tim, he was indeed one of the best.

While old stagers and overgrown kids Tim and Lee learn to lace up their 12s (soon be into “big boy” size one shoes and out of the velcro) I’d like to say a big “hello” to Shake. Even though I dislike Knoppfler (but can see he’s very able). More “great player/slag off over-rated” posts very welcome 😀

Im just polishing up the size 12’s..
Yes…the fact that he’s one of my fav’s and I listed him as one of my fav’s seems to cover it.
BTW, I actually am a size 12 so 😛 again 😀

Prepared to take a bath for some of these guys:
Jerry Garcia
Trey Anastasio
Bob Weir (hugely underrated guitarist)
Mark Knopfler
Jimmy Page
Brendan Bayliss
Jake CinningerNot a big fan of the last 2, but they are good. Glad somebody mentioned Django, really getting into him lately.
And nobody menitoned ME yet?? Sheeshhhh…. 😆 🙄

Not ‘one’ person, but I have to give serious credit to The Wailers guitarists.

Much as I fail to see the need to defend such an ‘genre-inventing’ icon…
It maybe he’s the bassist’s guitarist but anyone who can write riffs that are so atmospheric but also foot-tappingly catchy is my kind of guitarist.
I admit the solos frankly suck but for pure heavy-weight riffage the man cannot be beaten.
In short I’m not particularly judging him on technical ability but on the actual writing and musical vision of what he did. And for kicking Glam in the ass.
I won’t go into too much detail as I know you like Paul (strum stum, moan, moan, strum, strum) Weller but Iommi’s playing opened my eyes at an early age (about 7) to the heavier/darker sounds available to toy with, so yeah, he’s one of my favourites (the name of the thread is ‘My Guitar Greats’ so 😛 ) -

Tony Iommi? im not going to ‘stick the boot in’ just yet, i will give you the opportunity to defend yourself first, queens bury rules and all that.
So in the words of the much underrated actor who played the Lion in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ ‘Stick-em up, go on, stick-em up’ . 😆 -

I was never a fan as such, but always loved Thin Lizzy, and I really like his Back On The Streets album.
Worst Thin Lizzy guitarist has got to be John Sykes, surely.

We could do an “overrated guitarists I feel the need to slag off” thread, then 😆

He does nothing for me, I just read an interview with him in this months Guitarist magazine, seems like he has only just understood the importance of leaving ‘Space’ in a song, Something Gilmour is the master at.
Pity he didn’t learn the lesson 20 years ago when he was trying to get as many notes as he could in the shortest time possible. -

I saw Gary Moore last night. He’s one of those guitarists that leaves you feeling inadequate.

We had a Best Guitarists thread a while back Lou and I put David Byrne in it… I got hammered for it.
