I’ve been listening to a bit of John Lee Hooker lately as my music tastes have slowed down a little.

I know plenty of you guys are into blues and would probably be able to recommend me some lesser known artists to check out?

LOl lee, only just saw that pic. I’m a sucker for paint jobs.

And your right Lou, Myspace is a great source for digging out new artists. Old ones too.

Let’s try to lure him out.

      This should do the trick:

JOHN OTWAY INVENTED THE DOUBLE GUITAR, NOT YOU!

I may be wrong, but I think Muddy Waters was played a lot in the movie “Crossroads”. Just and idea, but if you are a blues fan and haven’t seen it, that is what I would suggest.

😆 , who knows, if anything might get “famous player” posting in, that kind of unintended libel might 🙂

      Blimey! That was a typo.

I meant a GUY called Otis Taylor.

      (Sorry about that Mr Taylor).

I don’t see what his sexuality has to do with it. 😆

I quite enjoyed Gary Moore when I saw him earlier this year.

However, I enjoyed his support even more – a gay called Otis Taylor.

There’s another one for you, Mike.

Just don’t slip down the Gary Moore (More?) route.
He has, in a recent interview, totally denounced ‘Rock’ in favour of becoming a blues legend.
I suppose blues is flavour of the month….. again.

I suppose “Dog Died Duane” is a quintessential bluesplayer’s firstname.

      [/quote]

I was speaking to a guy on Wednesday night who’s writing a whole spoof history of the blues based on these sort of names. Sadly I was too pissed to remember any examples…

We’re really not doing the reputation of bass players any favours between us are we?!
Need to think of a way of diverting the attention back to the drummers…

like the what’s your pornstar name, but rather what’s your blues singer name?

I like ‘Mills Bone’ or ‘Stills Steamtrain’

      Much too plausable though.

There’s Muddy Waters, of course and Buddy Guy. I still haven’t pulled out the CD but a quick yootoob of “howlin’ wolf” and “blind lemon” should work wonders. While I’m thinking (spelt “drinking”), we could do a comp for most bizarre-yet-plausible blues-artiste name.

I would love it if “Canine distemper playground incident permanently impaired vision” actually was the firstname of some blues legend.

I love Lightnin’ Hopkins, great old raw stuff, also worth checking the obvious ones like Leadbelly, Sonny Boy Williamson etc…
Loads of more contemporary stuff to choose from too.

Went to see these guys on Saturday:

Kick-ass show, great vocal/bass…everything really! Even bought their CD for a tenner (signed of course!)

I have an early blues compilation CD. I’ll dig it out and re-listen. These comp CDs can often be bought very cheap in supermarkets, though, and are a good intro to the genre. Our bass-playing “Boogieman” (JLR) knows his roots, though. I’d hope he’d look in and chime.
