I’m back … I couldn’t quite get it together last week. I wound up in hotels without Internet access.

This week’s lesson is a compact little piece I wrote for the ‘About tablature’ page at the site. I call it Capo Lane, but it doesn’t require a capo.

Go to Guitar for Beginners and Beyond and follow the Weekly Lesson links. I think you’ll enjoy the way this one falls off the fingertips.

I’ll be returning to Australia next week, so I’ll try to fit a new lesson in amongst the packing up, selling off, sending out and giving away. My year stint in Canada is over; it was good, and getting home will be good too. One the first things I’ll be doing is initiating a new print run for PlaneTalk – The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. I know a lot of you have been waiting for the real physical book to come back online. PDFs are OK, but real books are better, let’s face it.

PlaneTalk, (as if you don’t already know!), is the book I wrote which divulges a very neat, concise way of looking at the fretboard, a way that turns it into friendly familiar territory no matter what’s going on, and a way of approaching improvisation that has nothing to do with scales or modes. Check out the Testimonials page if you’re wondering what other think of this simple visualization ‘trick’.

I’ll also be selling my beautiful brass slides when I get back. I have them made for me, lathed from solid brass. They are thick-walled and heavy and sustain forever, so check back soon. If you are into slide guitar, please come and participate in the Slide Guitar Discussion Forum. It’s very civilized, informative and enlightening.

I have a bunch of downloadable MP3’s available of my music at my Soundclick Page. Help yourself to what’s there!

    All the best,

    Kirk
