I quite like “1BL is a new light”; made me feel a bit prophetic. But it was just a typo, ah well.

That was meant to read ‘in’ rather than is. Damn keyboards.
Your BBC reference did refer to the same thing as David Brent’s joke at the office party? The one that shouldn’t have offended anyone.

Yes, Tim. If my other fora s/n of “feyEnglishgimp” were linked to my serious, ominiscient, bassist’s credentials, I’d be done for…
D’oh! 😳

If I had the choice to place the newborn Jamie Oliver within 40 miles of the estuary, I would probably have plumped for German Bight. Bet the bugger can swim, though.

😆 Why the hell did you give up your journo career? you do come up with some classic one liners, i think he was about 40 miles from the estuary, didnt he come from Chelmsford? or Chumpsford as the locals call it.
-
March 7, 2008 at 6:19 am #765041bassleftParticipant
Exactly. Not even what I call a decent English accent. At least, not the Jeremy Irons sort of class that ought to have American ladies wishing you’d give them a “pearl necklace”. Jamie is just estuary mouth.

I don’t blame her for doing a quick runner; the rubber faced, rocket-munching git (that’s Jamie Oliver I’m talking about, not your missus, Toco 🙂 )

I wish I knew, 1bass. If Jamie Oliver from the Food Network knocked at the door, the Mrs. would disappear so fast my head would spin. 😕

Sounds like you need Ted Greene’s other book: Hand soloing for lonely nights

1BL tries the Hugh Grant approach, only to find that his preference for a manual transmission leads to confusion and disappointment. And a fine.

😆 , Toco. Apparently, I even type with an English accent. I’ve had some strange proposals from the ladies of various states when venturing onto non-guitar-related threads. I’m sticking to the BBC for the latest views on the Presidential race from now on. What on earth is so interesting about us Blighties to your lasses?

Come to America, 1bass! While playing live, both members of our “rhythm section” are under the constant guard of their spouses against a veritable hoard of phone number wielding trollops. 😉
Also, we’ve found that – mostly through the exploits of a friend of a friend from London – a British accent plays very well with the ladies of Northern Minnesota – they’d love to hear all about your high tech instrument.

Warmoth make a very nice Telebass body (as does a bloke on FleebUS called mph3 IIRC). It’s even possible, from either of them, to get an F-holed thinline with ivory binding. Very, very tempting but, as you say, designed for a four-string. Even so… (and I have a ’51P single coil in my bag of bits – imagine if I could get hold of the TeleBass h’bucker for a good price as well 😀 )
-
March 5, 2008 at 7:53 am #76319lee_UKParticipant
Do they make a Telecaster Bass? Probably but you would want a 5 string with a double octave neck 😆
-
March 5, 2008 at 7:44 am #763791bassleftParticipant
Damn you guitarists. I have a reasonable haircut, clothes the right side of “not too self-concious about his image” without straying into “has it been washed since his mum knitted it for Christmas?” territory, and my bass is a far more advanced piece of playing materiel than a mere Tele; yet I haven’t been given a ‘phone number since a double-glazing bloke pestered me outside the supermarket.
All I get at the end of a gig is a porknuckle sandwich and a copy of British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology while the guitarist’s dressing room door rhythmically thuds to the sound of four girls trying to bags first straddle 👿

But i must admit, he can play.. :D[/quote]That’s all I was trying to say.
Also, considering that even a Sheepdog with a telecaster strapped ’round its neck would get a fair number of phone numbers; I’d imagine that – despite his aesthetic deficiencies – Mr. Greene does ok with the ladies, too. 😉

Jazz guitar
Single Note Soloing-Vol 2
by Ted Greene. He looks a complete noob.
He wears nobhead glasses,
he wears ‘the great white hunter’ outfit
that makes him look like an extra from
Tarzan and Cheetah.
He has a stupid grin,
He plays a Telecaster when nobody in the Jazz
world plays a Tele,
He has the haircut from hell
and he can’t even spell his surname.. it’s Green
not Greene.
But i must admit, he can play.. 😀 -

Apols, Toco; I haven’t read his books. Still, you gotta admit “single note soloing” is a bit of a ” 😯 ” title. It’s like “one punchline standup”, “monogamous swinging” or “single card ‘snap’ games” as a book title…
-
March 1, 2008 at 5:24 am #126912lee_UKParticipant
Never judge a book by it’s cover. 😀
You only need to know 3 chords. Oh and an Em usualy comes in quite handy, maybe a couple of 7ths to liven up the broth.
-
March 1, 2008 at 4:48 am #126911vitaminEParticipant
FYI – Ted Greene is a master of Jazz chords and chord progressions. I’ve had the book Modern Chord Progressions for neary 15 years, and I still can’t touch many of the chords in the book, let alone transition from one to the other.
This dude is not a joke – he’s one of the more accomplished guitar players of the last 40 years and the book mentioned above will blow your mind.
