I have been trying to figure out the year of my Ibanez RS 2. I have owned it for about 20 years. I removed the neck from the body and finally found some numbers they are f440 and then it also says Ibanez but thats it for numbers on this guitar. Any feed back would great.

😆 , as old pervs go, I suppose I’m slightly nicer than the average. BTW, I was about to answer some of your other Qs about the Strat on the “pics and links” thread, but my PC hung up. Anyhoo, regarding its value, there is a R-serial (ie, slightly younger than yours) Fender Japan Tele on eBay with a Buy It Now of $550 but no takers. One of the problems is the cost of EPS shipping to the States or Europe.

Japanese-made Fenders are more highly regarded in the UK than US (some American players are still not aware how well made they are) but the earlier ones (“JV” for Japanese Vintage or serials beginning “A” and “B”) are worth double the later, ’90s examples.

If you want to play harder/faster rock then you might want to move on from the Tele but I’m not sure a Standard Strat is what you’d want. Two of the things that might appeal in a different guitar are a flatter radius neck (Fenders are 9.5″, which is pretty curved) and humbuckers, which give a ballsier tone. Consider perhaps a “SuperStrat” guitar with a bridge humbucker by the likes of Ibanez.

According to Fender’s website, P+6 digits = made in Japan, 1993-1994. Here’s the link direct to the site without risking internet sexfiends 🙂

      Welcome to the forum, BTW

Ashley, just type up the serial number and I can get a date on the Tele for you. Or else you can type “Fender Serial Dating” into a search engine (Fender’s own website has the ability to date their guitars). You’ll turn up a few sites offering unlimited boyfriends/girlfriends/both who can’t wait to lay themselves (or you) over the car, but at least three sites that can tell you the age of your guitar will also show up.

it’s a 2006 Fender Tele 52 reissue in black with seymour duncan pickups, its wired so that the neck pup can be reverse polorised, the neck is maple, the strings are ernie ball 9-48’s i think in nickle, but i could be wrong, the brand of polish used on this occasion was Mr Sheen waxfree, good choice because of the sweaty circumstances, value?? i’d have to say, at least £350.
PS i don’t like the song much.

Glad to be of some help, although I’m surprised that the “440” you spotted didn’t refer to the model number. Those FGG-made Roadstars are very well regarded these days.

[quote=”1bassleft”]Those numbers don’t help much to put an age on it. The 440 likely refers to the model number (Roadstar II 440, Stratalike with HSS pups and a coil tap on the HB, locking bridge) and the “f” probably refers to the Fuji-Gen Gakki factory, as these were made in Japan. I’d estimate mid-1980s but you’d need a serial number in the format listed here:

Thanks for the info I have figured out the year it is a 1986 RG410 DX

to get closer than the estimate.
