Exactly the same kind of [value diving] mods I have done to my own amps, purely because I felt it necessary to suit me, rather than worry about resale value.

Whoever's right (and, be honest, no-one will be), that sort of attitude deserves respect.

Amen bro,

I play music for the tone rather than the resale value of my equipment. Anyone who doesn't simply hasn't arrived yet. I don't believe I have a single piece of gear that hasn't been modified. Except my modelers. They were meant to modify.
As far as a 3 pickup SG. The first thing I did to destroy the collectors value was to order a two pickup pick guard and remove the center pickup. Being a finger picker, it got in my way. Naturally I never believed how much it would be worth if I left it in its crappy unplayable lackluster state.
It took a lot for me to get used to a 3 pickup Start.

Strats are way prettier than LP's. But LP's are cuter. Kinda like obese little baby arch tops.(Weight) However, if you practice making guitar faces in front of the mirror, rather than learning how to play, the average audience won't notice what your playing anyway. So this is all moot.

My posts are always submitted for evaluation. I went to the link to see what I was doing wrong but got a non existing page. Perhaps it's my spelling? Rolling Eyes

But you have to draw the line on modding certain guitars, ive put a Maestro trem on my SG, 2 holes in the body won't help the resale on that, but if i had a custom shop 58 LP i would have to think twice, i would never buy any kind of PRS but i guess you would have to draw the line on that too.

My top 5 on the guitar tree. (for looks)

I know I'm quoting a quotey guy but that's cos I'm too drunk too care...

And because I agree entirely with both...I never buy anything that I wouldn't be willing to hit with the old 'Black and Decker' (speaking stricly of musical thingy's of course...) my Aria (Christine...incase you're interested) willl rock in the mightiest of ways when it has it's impending surgery, oh yes. And thats all possible because it's a) kick-ass, b) not worth much and c) owned by someone who doesn't give a funk anyway.

Mustard mitt, I hacked out the awful impedance selector before I realized how much my CMI/Marshall was now worth, but I still shrugged because I needed something that didn't keep falling out in the middle of gigs. Don't know if I' be ballsy enough to do it to a Superlead these days, but I hated that pin with a vengeance.

Like Tim, it is nice to find a good guitar that hasn't got some insane, vintage value to worry about. My Fenix Jazz is a lovely bit of wood but I could put the piezo gubbins in there without wincing about classic values tumbling.

Strat or LP?

Really depends on which one you are comfortable with I guess Smile

I have gigged with a strat and strat-styled guitars (I own a Fender MIJ with FR trem, A Fender Amstrat std, a Kramer Barretta, a Floyd Rose DSOT-2, a Jackson soloist and an Ibanez RGX) and LP guitars (my boss has a Gibson LP Custom shop, a friend would always lend me his Epiphone BB3 and SG400 and I recently purchased a Chinese LP).

I admit that I have just recently bought an LP but like I said I have already played on several of them before this and here are the few difference I noticed.

1. Strats and its cousins always have that twang while LPs always tend to have fuller sounds.

2. Fenders only have 21 frets except for a few models which makes me scratch my head when trying to play satch or vai. LPs have 22 frets that you can extend up to 24 or so by bending up at the fret on the 22nd.

3. Fenders and its cousins are mostly lighter than LPs so using it on long gigs is not cumbersome on the shoulders.

4. sustain is longer on LPs at overdrive (maybe due to the construction?)

Another question to reckon with maybe is why is it that Gibson and Epiphone tried to make strat copies while Fender never attempted to make LP-styled guitars? (I haven't seen any Fender LPs)
