You're comparing "apples to oranges" here and it seems to me to be a rather uninformed question. Both instruments have their good and bad points. I'd personally love to own a nice Les Paul, but they have a long and well documented history of prematurely falling apart in the climatic extremes of northern Minnesota.

That's sort of a random comparison, too. Why not compare a Gretch Duo-jet to a Jackson Soloist? Or a Schecter PT and a B.C. Rich Bich?

...wrong.

Correct answer is Les Paul, unless you just happen to be called Jimi...or Rory...Stevie...Mr Morrello...bugger, foot, shot, self...

Les Pauls are SUPER easy to play and hence they are favored by half-assed guitarists like Ace Frehly and sloppy guitarists like Jimmy Page. Lots of girl guitar players pick them for the same reasons.

The VAST majority of REALLY creative, expressive guitarists favor Fender guitars or at least strat-style instruments.

Also, once a Fender player switches to a Les Paul, their technique is often ruined forever. You can have your over-priced, over-stuffed sequined sofa - I'll choose the uncomfortable maple chair every time.

Strats are definitely prettier. I never liked that singlecut Les paul design, and the position of the picup selector marrs its appearance like a great big pimple.

No contest for me.

I played Gibsin LP's and SG's all the time I gigged. I felt that no respectable musician would own a "bolt on" neck. After I started playing again after 25 years of hanging it up, a friend let me have a tiwan strat.

Made of solid lead plywood, I believe. But the body and feel of it caught my attention. And I loved the bright clean tones. I always was a squeaky clean picker and tried to get those tones from my pauls and SG's by splitting the pickups, but after getting a real Strat (warmoth ) I fell in love for good. Now I have 1 sg 2 LP's and 5 Strats.

I guess the proper answer would be another question. Are you a muddy picker, or a squeaky clean picker who doesn't care if the bad notes really stand out in a solo?

I have SSH combinations on almost all of my Strats so I can get that hard drive or the squeaky clean sounds. To extend my choices I build "varitones" into all my Strats.

Like a friend once tole me. "Once you go Strat, you'll never go bat"
Pretty obvious.... I'm a Strat Cat. Laughing

The edit is because I'm too stupid to figure out how to vote in the poll. I guess I already did in my post... I can't type or spell either. Guess I was born for the Internet.
