Hi All,
I have a Sheraton with Epiphone by Gibson on the headstock. It is a lovely Blonde natural Maple serial number is 70708039 which is only an 8 digit number. The dating site doesn’t recognise the serial number as it stated that they only recognised 12 digit numbers.

I was told when I bought the guitar that it was a ’78 but have recently seen that the logo “Epiphone by Gibson” was only made between ’86 and ’88.

The state –
The first and fifth number signifies the year it was built, and the second, third, and fourth are the day of the year.
For example, if the first five digits of your eight-digit serial number are 01545, then you know that the guitar was made on the 154th day of the year in 2005.
The sixth number in the modern sequence will tell you the batch, and the last three indicate the rolling production number.

Going on the above mine is a ’78 made on the 70th day of the year and is number 39. Does this make it a Japanese made model?

Any further info would be helpful. It has Gold hardware and full sized Humbucker pickups.

Hi Guys, I am knew to this forum so I hope its okay, I thought this would be a good place to post my question. I just bought this epiphone acoustic/electric guitar, ej-200sce/vs, real nice guitar. My question is just a curious one, Usually they would have a letter code in-front of the serial number to denote its origin. But there is no code in front of the serial number, just the serial number. Is there a reason for this, just curious that’s all. Thanks for the feedback in advanced.

Just got an older Epiphone Genesis – serial number is SIX digits – starting with 006xxx located on the fretboard near the pickup.

Can’t seem to locate any information about a serial number in this location.

Would like to know date and location of manufacture…

I have an Epiphone/Gibson 335 dot cherry red guitar with the serial number 103072135 and can not for the life of me figure out what year and where it was made using the codes I find on the internet. Can anyone help me? Someone said it was made in Japan before they were made in Korea and later China.. I have a Epiphone Guitar with this number 199618 on the back of the neck . it has the name epiphone on the front of the head stock

Wish I could post a pic.. but the guitar is the black beauty style… Says Epiphone at the top and has a Gibson plate below the diamond shaped pearl colored inlay. I called Epiphone and they said either it was made in Korea in 1976 or it could have been made in either 1980, 1990, or 2000…. LMAO. So this guy was of absolutely no help.

There is not a made in tag on the back like many others I have seen. The number on the back of the head are gold and start with the letter either I or l. Will depend on how they used the letter, I am gonna say with a capital I. SO here is the number… I (SPACE) 00110024.

It is super heavy and plays like a dream. Bought it for husband in 2008 when we got engaged and was just wondering what the real history on his beauty is. I paid almost 1,500 for it in 08. The owner of the music story said it was a 60’s/70’s model. Thanks for the help guys.

I bought this used but can’t seem to find any info on it. Serial# 1107133432. On back of headstock it says: Limited edition, custom shop. There is no pick gaurd, two control knobs and a toggle switch betwen those. It is flat black in color.

Can anyone elp with information for it? I tried guitardater but it doesn’t support the 10 digit serial numbers. It comes back as unrecognized.

I have a natural coloured Sheraton with a bit of a mystery attached.
Apart from being the best guitar i have ever played the mystery is that
there is not a single mark on it to identify its origin or manufacture.
Meaning no serial number or even a sticker inside the body, can
anyone help.

I have an Epiphone Riviera in wine red that I bought a few years ago. The guy who sold it to me said it was made in Japan in the very early 1970s, most likely 1971. I want to sell it but don’t want to mis-represent it when I advertise it.
It has a set neck, full size humbuckers and a frequensator tailpiece. It has an orange label inside the F-hole with the serial number 93166 on it. There is no serial number on the headstock and nowhere on the guitar or the label does it say where it was made. It has the three screws securing the truss-rod cover so probably Asian manufacture. The guitar has the thinnest neck, front to back, that I’ve ever seen on a guitar, thinner than the 1960s Gibson ES-335s. That’s why I’m selling it. I have big hands and it’s just not enough of a handful for me.
Any help in dating this guitar would be most gratefully received.

I am trying to date my PR 350e and find out country of manufacture. It has a square label with a thick black internal border and a thin border inside that with just epiphone , model number and serial no. 9091015 . It has a Gibson truss rod cover and snowflake fret inlay’s and a tortoise shell pick guard. I have a number of epi’s but I have not seen this type of label before. Any help would be much appreciated.

The guitar I believe to be made in the 70’s but? It is dark maple sunburst, gold plated hardware, and serial # is S7019737.The number is on the back of tuning head. Seems that Epiphone started the numbering over again , I called Epiphone Factory rep’s and was told S7019737 was made in 2000’s. Can anyone help thanks

yes, that’s the number on the sticker inside the body, but there’s no number on the back of the headstock

Here’s a guide to Epiphone serial numbers taken from Gibson’s website:

Most regular production models since ca. 1993. Many ’80s and early ’90s serial numbers may follow a similar scheme, but may not include a factory ID code.
FYYMMRRRR
F= Factory code (this can be 2 letters as well)
YY= year of manufacture (this can also be just 1 digit for ’90s models)
MM= month of manufacture
R= ranking number (may be more or less digits, not necessarily indicative of total units produced)
Example – S02021234 was issued in Feb. 2002.

Another code used on some current Epiphone models
FYYMRRRR
F= Factory code
YY=Year of manufacture
M= This will be a letter code corresponding to the month (A=January, B=February, etc…)
RRRR= ranking number
Example – R03D0263 was issued in April 2003.

Epiphone Elite/Elitist models
FYSSSS
F= Factory Code (this code will be an “F” or “T”)
Y= Year of manufacture (2 = 2002, 3 = 2003, etc.)
SSSS= Sequential Serial Number
Example – T41234 is a 2004 Elitist model.

Hi, I have such an Epiphone, serial number begining with 88 and I cannot find when it was made either! I would guess the guitar is either a copy or eipiphone had samples made by prospective suppliers in the late eighties. Due to the 88 at the front I think it might be an early sample from the company whom started manufacture in the 90’s for Epiphone. There is one extra digit to many to show it as being in the Gibson series. Except the extra digit is a zero behind the 88. Do the numbers 88 and the last number 5 on your guitar label have a bolder appearance? My guitar is a beautiful natural maple front and sides with a big lump of pinkish wood inside and sounds absolutely great. Hope you can find out more about these guitars. Good luck.

looking at the epiphone forum the serial numbers seem to run similar to gibsons, if they begin with a letter then this denotes the factory/country of origin, yours has no letter so yours according to Epi forum was made in
88(1988) 05(may 5th month) 09595(9,595th guitar made). Dont know a lot about these numbers so take that with a pinch of salt, you could try posting your question here:
