http://www.docdosco.comIt is a pleasure for me to do a feature on the gifted European
jazz guitarist Harri Stojka. Harri plays gypsy jazz, and he does it with
flare. There is lots and lots of burning guitars on his new CD ‘A
Tribute to Swing’. It is a real gem. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to
this new CD and encourage everyone who likes gypsy styled jazz to check it out.Online bio
This is pure jazz! It all started with the CD ‘Live At The Roma Wedding’
released in April. The album was dubbed ‘CD of the Month’ by the
magazine Jazzzeit in March, and many concerts, TV appearances and
radio broadcasts followed. From October 2004, a sequel of the CD is
now available: This time it is a studio recording featuring top
musicians from the Vienna music scene!Swing at its best: Harmonies and runs, vivacity and fine sounds tied
together in a bouquet of great variety, played with virtuosity, feeling
and joy. The themes are clear, no matter how much leeway there is for
improvisation. Staccato or well-tempered, tempos are always
characterised by lightness.“The band is homogenous, a perfect formula. Nothing to be added, this is
rhythm and swing!” says Werner ElsnigHarri Stojka about his CD: “I love old-fashioned jazz music. I have
always been fascinated with jazz music from the 1930ies and 1940ies. The
carefree, nimble way in which the virtuoso soloists play flowing
melodies, the old-fashioned harmonic structures – seemingly simple,
and yet so difficult! On this CD I play on a wonderful, magical (my
wonderful, magical) gypsy jazz guitar – a Joseph di Mauro, built in
Paris in ’87 – playing this music on such an instrument is always an
experience beyond compare … a fantastic journey back to a time when
jazz was most intense, purest, greatest, at least for me!”Harri Stojka’s website:
