I know this thread has been dead for ages but I thought I'd randomly post as this was my entry point into the 'Guitarsite Forum world' don't know why the heck I was searching for 2 stringed basses on Google, guess the 'spirits' must have got to me...

Tim.

p.s. That is a kick-ass bass, I've always wanted a 4-string that I could set up as BEAD instead of EADG, I fail to see the point of the G-string (on a bass!) bring on the B.

Tim, my entry-point was the charmingly titled thread "this board sucks" Shocked . Who knows what my search was aimed at? Anyhoo, I agree with you - I haven't played with my G-string for a while (I can hear Lee and Mike sniggering)...

Changing a EADG to a BEAD is no big deal. Alter the nut, waggle the saddles. Better still (you're a righty, aren't you?), get a cheap 5-string. They're all over the Fleeb for £120. I have to say that, once I got a fiver, all my four-strings gathered dust.

I don't know if my fingers (or memory) could cope with 5 strings...even my guitar is now a 4 string!

5-strings are a piece of the proverbial. OK, I sometimes turn the wrong tuning key. Better still, the git-player says "give me an A" and I hit the "E". HST, I found the B a ton of use. If nothing else, it saves a quick sprint down the board sometimes.

Since I got one, all the new songs have used that string in some way.
