Hello All, I have a Yairi guitar, paper label inside says…. Hand Crafted in Japan by Yairi… model no 1450… ad 1965…. serial no 494. I have been doing some research and now know Yairi guitars are special, but I cannot find any that date to 1965 or have just numbers for the model and serial numbers, (I am assuming that ad 1965 is the year this guitar was made). Anyone here know about this guitar… or can anyone point me to a website that might help me do some research on this guitar. Thanks!!!

This guitar was made by Sadao Yairi, not Kazuo Yairi, of Alvarez Yairi. (who took over his Father’s Yairi Factory, established 1935, in 1965)

I’ve seen Sadao Yairi models back as far as 1961. The 1450 models I’ve seen looked to have spruce tops, rosewood fingerboard, and a variety of different bridge woods. Most of the fingerboards, (at soundhole) were shaped with a curve “~” as opposed to a straight line. There were also models 1170 and 1045, all of these are very similar in appearance.

Photo’s would be a big help~ if you’re still interested in info on it.

      Regards,

      Hi Jen,

I could find models all the way back to ’66 – but not ’65.

I suggest you take a look at the Yairi Yahoo Group at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/yairiguitars/ and check out the files section for a lot of history/pricing/dating articles on Yairis.

I’ll continue to have a look around and see what I can dig up.

EDIT: Any other writing or numbers printed anywhere on it?

Did you ever find any information on your Yairi model 1450? My dad has a model 1450 from 1966 that I’m trying to learn about
