View Original Thread: Restringing Righthanded to Lefty

YamahaMa

My son is a lefty and wants to start playing an acoustic guitar. Since he is a beginner, I was wondering what is involved in converting one of my Yamahas over to a lefty. I don't care about the pickguard, since this would just be a temporary solution until he has a little more experience and I'm ready for the investment in a great lefty guitar. Is it a simple conversion that I can do myself by switching out the strings or do I need to take it to my guitar shop? Or maybe not a good idea at all? Hearing from anyone who has done this before would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm curious. Did you restring the guitar? Is your son playing now?

This is tough job but doable. Still, practicing and getting used to will be a both hard process to go through.
