| hi all. my son is looking at an Avalon AS100CE and we are wondering if this is a good guitar based on the fact that he has played a Lowden and loved the strength and strong sound off her. any pointers lads and ladies???? :?: |

I'm working on the basis that you mean the Korean-made Silver Series, rather than Avalons made in Ireland. If I'm wrong then this is a bit of a waste of reading (apols, but I don't think the AS100CE is made anywhere other than Korea). Harmony Central has posted a couple of reviewers and, although H-C reviews can be written by idiots, these two are balanced:

If your son has played a Lowden then the feel will be similar but it's probably a bit much to expect a Korean made (with laminated back and sides) to be in the same league. Don't buy without a try is my (not very expert) advice. |

Glad that my limited info was of use. I hope that proper acousticers can chime in to give more help. It looks like you are after a quality acoustic around £600 (that's $900 on exchange rates for our American friends but, in Britain, we don't get the deals so think ~$750 in your home market).
Any suggestions? Dale (maplebaby) and Guy (acoustica1) are our hollow-body experts. |
