I need to sell my guitar that I hardly ever play anymore. Its a Fender strat, solid ash body, added pickup (2 total), Made in Japan Serial #: V017804 (71 re-issuance) Its missing a key ring guard (just the ring in the hole not the key, works fine and easy to replace), and has no strings (has 5 old strings on it now). I need the money, can somebody give me a realistic idea of what i should ask for on craigslist? I will have picture later.

Without having any more information to go on, I can tell you that the basic American made reissue strats from 1996/1997 sell for around $800 second hand.

Yours was most likely made at the Fuji-gen factory which makes guitars under contract for Fender and also Yamaha, Ibanez, and Epiphone.

The Japanese made ones are usually worth around half what the American ones sell for.

I suggest you try listing it on ebay, after you clean it up and put strings on it, try a reserve price of around $300.

Please post back if you do - I'd like to see how it goes at auction.

http://www.guitarsjapan.com/fenderchart.html is a nifty site for those looking for information on Japan made strats. I own a JV strat myself and love it.
