| I keep banging on about the Line-6 guitar port, but it does it all, take a look at the line6 website, it explains it all on there, they also do some software called riff tracker or something like that, its a recording package with programable bass and drums etc. I have 2 friends who have bought it and they love it too, only problem is, you have to be connect to a PC to use it which makes gigging out of the question. |

Hi,
what you call as "quality sounds" you usually cannot get them from a sequencer or a similar software. Ideally you could use samples for the gigastudio or gigasampler (which is a software sampler and can work along with a sequencer), which are real instruments recorded and sorted in sound libraries in such a way that the sounds sound almost as 100% real instruments. You can achieve that depending on how you 'program' the performance of a midi song (dynamics, variations in tempo etc).
In order to create the music you need a sequencer such as 'Sonar' or if you want the program to fastly 'create' a backing track for you you can opt for 'Jammer' or 'Band in a Box'. In these programs you can 'throw in' some chords, choose a playing style or styles.....and away you go. These are amazing for practicing!
You can check some of the "samples" that I talked about earlier at the music section of my web site at www.dimitriskyriakidis.com. Most of the midi sounds that I use such as strings, drums, bass etc. come from instrument libraries that were created for Gigastudio. Gigastudio seems to be the best choice at the moment for quality of sounds. No hardware sampler and no keyboard seem to be able to compete if you are after sounds from instruments like strings, woodwinds, percussion, brass as well as bass. |

I have a Line 6 Flextone II. I have it hooked up to my computer using the SOundcard's line in port, and through the middi connection. I use Sonic FOundry Soundforge for actualy sound Edditing, and I use Acid Music for Mixing. It works Pretty good. My only gripe is I would like to find a Program that will let me write my own drum Beats (not just bass) without sounding like video game music |
