hi everyone. i just recently got into bass and i was wondering what kinds of artists you guys would recommend I listen to. thus far i've come across bass players such as Jaco Pastorius and this Jazz bassist named Kyle Eastwood (clint's son). Very inspring and very great to listen to. Any other recommendations?

Hello and welcome, Brandon. What styles of music do you like? IT helps to listen to players involved in music you find enjoyable in the first place; otherwise it's a bit of a dry exercise. Once you listen to the best in the genre you like, then you might move further afield and listen for the low notes in other styles.
Also, for me and many others, best isn't always "flashy, fast, etc" but often how that player contributes to the sound of the music. Have a little look at the "favourite bass riff" thread that's down a bit in this category. There are some good examples of players and their most memorable tracks in there.

Takes you to it (a bit of a detour about playing in guitar shops, but scroll past that ) |

| From the ones you mentioned, it sounds like you're into Jazz music. If so, check out a few of these incredible Jazz bassists: Charles Mingus, Stanley Clarke, Ray Brown and Oscar Pettiford. |
