Speaking more as a contributor/reader than a mod...

The spam has been quite tedious and obviously cuts into my time for reading new posts (like Tim, I enjoy reading all of them) and writing my own (see, there's a silver lining in every cloud Smile ) so I'm glad that new ways of defeating them are on stream. As for the advertizing, I use a blocker that seems highly effective. The downside is that I now seem to have to log in most visits, even though I should be permanently on (I have the same trouble with Fleeb). Personally, I dislike the Washburn "gore" banner; only because it slows screen reloads. This is true of many sites (and, indeed, software in general); as soon as hardware speeds up, the software bloats to slow it down again. Another site I use frequently now has pretty pics, backgrounds etc and the net result is that, after posting a reply, I wonder if my PC's hung.

All that said, it does worry me when good contributors, whose posts I always enjoy reading, are losing the taste for the place. I'm hoping that the filtering efforts help to keep you guys looking in and writing here Smile

Spam has been such a problem that one forum I visit occasionally has just given up and closed. Another requires a very stringent registration.

But this is one of the very few sites that my FireFox (newest verstion) does NOT kill the popups, for some reason.

I'm on the old version of Firefox (specifically 1.5.0.8 ) and I don't get any pop-ups now. I used to get one but as long as I didn't close that one no more would appear. Suprised they are getting through Firefox 2, do you allow auto-updates?

Yeah, it's all set up.

Actually, what this site does is open popups in new browser windows, unlike any other site I visit.

Hi mrblanche.
I post here one of the best programm i've never used :"croc pop up".
A french programm but don't worry about that.
I translate all the functions :
When you install it (installer in french) you will see the words :
-suivant => means next
-Demarrer=>means launch
-quitter => abort

When you launch that programm you get an icon on your screen computer.Click right on it
Croquer means that you dont' want to see any pop up (the icon is becoming red)
Voir les options : that means "see the options" and you can :
Croquer
Reduire (the programm is active but you want to minimize the options window)
Quitter means abort.
Easy and.......TERRIFIC!!!

Let me know if the link i sent you is valid.

The link works, the program installs...but it doesn't recognize these new browser windows that this site opens as "popups."
