Much as I fail to see the need to defend such an 'genre-inventing' icon...
It maybe he's the bassist's guitarist but anyone who can write riffs that are so atmospheric but also foot-tappingly catchy is my kind of guitarist.
I admit the solos frankly suck but for pure heavy-weight riffage the man cannot be beaten.
In short I'm not particularly judging him on technical ability but on the actual writing and musical vision of what he did. And for kicking Glam in the ass.
I won't go into too much detail as I know you like Paul (strum stum, moan, moan, strum, strum) Weller but Iommi's playing opened my eyes at an early age (about 7) to the heavier/darker sounds available to toy with, so yeah, he's one of my favourites (the name of the thread is 'My Guitar Greats' so ) |

| Not 'one' person, but I have to give serious credit to The Wailers guitarists. |

Prepared to take a bath for some of these guys:
Jerry Garcia
Trey Anastasio
Bob Weir (hugely underrated guitarist)
Mark Knopfler
Jimmy Page
Brendan Bayliss
Jake Cinninger
Not a big fan of the last 2, but they are good. Glad somebody mentioned Django, really getting into him lately.
And nobody menitoned ME yet?? Sheeshhhh.... |

Yes...the fact that he's one of my fav's and I listed him as one of my fav's seems to cover it.
BTW, I actually am a size 12 so again |

While old stagers and overgrown kids Tim and Lee learn to lace up their 12s (soon be into "big boy" size one shoes and out of the velcro) I'd like to say a big "hello" to Shake. Even though I dislike Knoppfler (but can see he's very able). More "great player/slag off over-rated" posts very welcome |
