I was only talking about PS2 guitar add-ons a few weeks back in And Finally, and what do you know, there's now a rock band simulator on the way.

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo
(E3), RedOctane(R) announced it has signed an agreement with
Harmonix(R) to release Guitar Hero, a guitar playing simulation
game for the PS2.

Here's what they had to say on it:
--
Guitar Hero is a guitar simulation game that puts you at the center of
your very own rock band. By pressing down on fret buttons on a specially
designed guitar controller, players can form notes and chords to be played by
strumming in time on a "strum bar" representing the strings of an electric
guitar. These notes and chords are represented onscreen by scrolling note
markers. Using button combinations, sustains and the whammy bar, players will
experience the essence of what it's like to actually play some of the coolest
rock songs of all time. Players can choose from multiple rock characters and
play at concert venues that grow in size as your rock career progresses.
--

Of course, it will never rival the real thing. There's no getting drunk
on plane flights or royally trashing a hotel suite. Still, I can't wait
to see someone getting stuck into Stairway to Heaven at the local video
game store.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

PLUS: There is also a competition on their website at http://www.beaguitarhero.com
The prize? Have your bands music featured in the game.
