What is the least expensive hardware I can use to produce MIDI tab/notation directly from my guitar into one of the commonly available software programs? Do I have to do something as elaborate as using a Roland? Can a MIDI pickup somehow be used to go directly into my computer (MAC Powerbook) without an expensive sound effects box?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Lee-UK

Thanks for the tip. I checked out the site and it looks to be a cool MAC program. I will check into it further before deciding on a software purchase.
At this point I'm still trying to figure out the hardware. I asked at a local guitar store and they think that I can simply plug my guitar into an inexpensive MIDI converter (such as a MIDIsport) and then plug that into the computer, just as you would a keyboard. That sounds too simple, but I don't know enough about it to make a judgement.

Thanks again.
