My father bought a red ibanez at a yard sale, but we have no idea what model it is! The serial number is P802487. It has two pickups, similar to the RG model of Ibanezs. It has only one knob (volume) and a 3 way selector switch on it. I assume that the serial number means number 2487 made in 1980 so it may be no help. Additionally, it has a stamp stating that it is made in Korea. It's a 6 string, of course.

Confused

What you have is probably not a standard issue, but one of those made after people guitars...I think your dads' guitar is a MTM2 (MicK Thompson from Slipknot). Or it could be the Apex1 or Apex2 from Munky. Please post me a picture of it and then I will be able to totally find out what it is, not just narrow it down. Very Happy

Mich Thompson is a rather new style guitar with bar EMG pickups... this guitar has single coil. Also, the Mick Thompson has a giant "Seven" plastered across the neck. This doesn't have that. And to top it all off, the Mick Thompson's head is very different as well. The Apex series of guitar is 7 string, so obviously not my guitar.

If you had read my post you could have ruled all of those out.

@ Sylvia: The serial # is definately P802487.

I'm beginning to think it might be counterfeit..

But now for some pictures :

It does look a bit moody, is that the original colour? or has it had a respray? The serial number, being the stick on kind, does look to be in better condition than the rest of the guitar, by my reckoning it should look a bit shabbier.

I don't know if it has had a respray; the neck has a lot of fretwear but plays very nicely. I would assume by it's condition that it has been played a lot. It's my primary electric, actually. Embarassed

browsing around...the 80 does seem to suggest the year...if that was an F but it clearly isn't.
Wikipedia (of all places Rolling Eyes ) says that there were Korean Ibanez made in the Peerless factory, but can't figure the dates.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibanez

The usually safe-bet Guitar Dater Project says it was made in Japan?

Edit: nevermind. This is not a RG340. The pickup arrangement is different, although the P does stand for the Peerless factory in Korea. Also there is only a volume knob on mine, while the 340 has volume and tone. They are very similar, though.

I'm close to giving up, I have spent many hours researching this, and still have no idea what it is, besides ibanez with 2 humbuckers and a single volume knob. I am beginning to think that it is just a modified guitar, a mutt among ibanez.
