Tapping is for guys like this:
If you're not a self-important, washed-up metal has been (like Jeff Watson of Night Ranger), stick to the pen. And don't get any ideas - his "8 finger technique" is patented!

Hang on...are we talking about desks here? If so I agree totally! I found after 7 hours at work my finger ends were getting numb, until I discovered...'The Pen'
Also, a little pro-secret for you: If you use the nib end of a Pilot V5 it actually re-bounds as if you're using a real drum allowing you to execute some pretty kick-ass rolls and fills. |

I saw some good tapping once. Can't remember his name.
If you mean desk tapping however, try alternating between your desk and your legs for some great tone. Tone IS in your fingers in this case.
