Music Man Stingray I - serial #3 - what's it worth?

I have my father's Music Man Stingray I 6-string, black, in the original case. It is serial #3 (yes, the third one off the line).

It's been through a lot of moves over the years and there are a few scratches and blemishes on the back, but it looks almost mint from the front.

Anyone have a clue what this thing is worth?

So I dug a little deeper on the history of this guitar.

This was one of the originals built by Fender. Apparently Fender got #1, and #2-#7 went to the Music Man sales team (my dad had 8 states). There were six cases lined up and each sales guy picked one. My dad got #3.

At a sales hospitality suite in Atlanta, Eric Clapton and Albert Lee showed up. Lee ordered a scotch and coke from my dad (who was tending the bar), and asked to play one. My dad had his #3 sample there and Lee played it for them. I guess that was the only time it was ever played. Later, Clapton had one of the production IIs.

My dad also had the #2 Stingray II Base off the line, which was later played by Aerosmith on stage for one concert. It was stolen from our house years later when we moved to Virginia.

Due to the history of this guitar, it might be of some value to a collector.

So I dug it out of the basement and got it cleaned up to take some pictures.

It's not a Stingray II but a Stingray I. Sorry about that.

Sorry to take so long to reply to this and your thread in pics category. I have no real idea of value because I've never seen a 6-string Stingray guitar. I don't normally recommend bidding for something, but this eBay auction might interest you:

As a review of the guitar, it could fill in some gaps in the info and could be included in your own auction if you list the guitar on eBay yourself. Goes without saying, but include the story you've written here in the auction description to increase bidding. Have you bought or sold on eBay before now?

I think they normally go for between 500 and 1250$.

The most expensive i've seen was for sale on Ebay a week ago.....for 8000$. Shocked

It was the Stingray I with Serial #G001000 fxtech first talked about. Previously owned by the general manager of Music Man, Forest White, according to the sales-info.
