I am researching methods of muting my Precision bass having previously experimented with the Fender ashtray (with rubber muting) and varying degrees and methods of piano felt.

Please weigh in with any suggestions / experiences you've had with bass muting.

As I'm generally a plec player I just use palm muting, tooled about with felt a long time ago but never really got any nice effect and missed the flexibility of letting the occasional note ring.

Intrigued that you've tried a few methods with piano felt, what have you tried if you don't mind me asking?
