Absolutely yes. In buying used, the "crafted in Japan" 90s guitars were always considered inferior to the "made in Japan" 80s instruments, but 80s Squiers are seriously expensive. £70 is next to nothing and, I suspect, is priced to compare with the Chinese Squiers.
The CIJ Vista should be a good basis (remember, it is a 24" scale and I read it made use of leftover, proper, MIJ Jag necks) for upgrading to an excellent guitar. Fender tuners, Seymour pups (others might suit your preference or wallet better) and it could be a seriously giggable guitar. Stock, it's still well above its price point. Bear in mind the latest Vintage Modifieds (I have a Tele bass that's very nice) would cost enough to make this offer worth taking up. If it were Chinese, I'd probably pass. |
