Seriously, basswood is low-density in most eyes, or weighing scales. Warmoth says this Quote: This is a lighter weight wood normally producing Strat® bodies under 4 lbs...It is quite soft, and does not take abuse well. and I have seen bodies take a ding under pretty superficial contact. Must be another reason for the heft.
