Hi everyone,
I have a dumb question on strings....
I'd like to try some heavy gauge string set... like 11 - 60 or even 11 - 67...
...but I don't want to ruin the neck of my viper...
shuld I change tension on the neck screw? or move the bridge? or buy a non flat top guit??
I mean 60 is a lot of tension... I'd hate to own a banana neck guit after two weeks of the new strings....
....thanks for your advices.
...actually I have another question... Is there any way of lowering the sound tone just by changing the material of which the strings are made of ?

You wont bend the neck by putting heavier strings on, just give it a go,
if you are not happy with making truss rod adjustments then give it to
a shop or repair guy to set up.
To be honest i think you will need to make adjustments.

'shuld I change tension on the neck screw?' Neck screw you mean truss rod? i think you may well need to, you will need to tighten it slightly to straighten the neck.

' or move the bridge?' individual string height adjustment??? you might need to do this too, difficult to say til you change the strings

'or buy a non flat top guit??' no.

I'd play about until you decide what string gauge suits you then get a pro setup, however, I'm only at this stage myself (with my bass) so not the most reliable advice. My problem is everything affecting everything else (truss rod, intonation, acion) I've tweaked but the adjustments are minute so personally I want a solid starting point which I can then tweak to maintain.

This is kind of related, Does anyone know the dullest sounding acoustic strings? My acoustic is strung with Martin 80/20 Bronze 12-54s, Love the guitar hate the twangy top endyness of the strings. I want to play blues and I want them to be dirty. Basically. Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
