Will fat fingers affect the pressing of the strings? For example, the skin will slightly touch the neighbouring string making it mute or the buzzing sound. I always get that problem but i am not counted as fat. Is it because of something else or what. Please help me! Thanks! [size=12]  |

| I'm guessing anyone with near-normal fingers can find a guitar that would have plenty of spacing for their fingers. The width of fretboards, after all, has a great deal of variance between brands and even models within brands. |

What is size 12? Do they measure fingers that way now?

Well when you stand still for as long as we do...outdoor festivals...late autumn, the toes go first, face slowly loses it's colour, fingers go numb, etc |

Tim. That Otzi guy they found actually turned out to be Bill Wyman. Back to topic; mustard mitt my fingers (even if I did cut my nails) were all wrong for guitar. I still cannot do an Amaj in the way the books say - I just use two fingers and splunge them over the three strings. So, I switched early on to bass.
It is worth trying different guitars, even those that look similar. Something that I could play reasonably on my sprog's guitar went horribly wrong on my guitarist's Tokai. I think the Tok may have one of those 'vintage' 7.25" radius necks. It certainly felt weird. The upside-down Trem arm didn't help, either. |

May i suggest one of those large electricaly heated mittens? you often see them advertised on the back pages of 'News of the World' under the MOPS banner.
You obviously have to plug the things in and so you will be stapled to the spot, Bill Wyman stylee, and then of course you can also purchase a 'Big Slipper' , similar sort of caper but you have to put both feet inside the single fur lined slipper, just dont get any ideas of doing a 'Paul Sinamon' but of course a quick 'Pogo' is ok.
Always remember safety first Bass playing 2nd, and get that all important circuit breakers for the heated mit and slipper. |

| I've been looking at over-size sleeping bags but it I think this might mute the strings and make everything sound a bit Dub. |

Anyhoo, back on topic, I'm not counted as fat either but I'm currently trying to learn guitar on an Epiphone SG and really struggling not to touch neighbouring strings when playing chords.
Taking A Major for example (played open) I can't get my fingers in position across the neck (D,G,B strings) or within the lengh of 2nd fret!
I assume this is just a case of perseverence? The Epi doesn't seem to have a particularly narrow board, but 8 years of bass has made my freting a little sloppy (finger ends are kind of lay down as opposed to stood on end, if that makes sense?)
Are the any secrets to solving this problem?...please...or is it just daily toil? |
