Hey Crazy,
I think lee_UK is absolutely right. The idea that one guitar is universally better than another guitar probably oversimplifies the differences between instruments too much. While we can probably directly compare the finish, hardware, pickups, etc between 2 guitars and choose which may be better, ultimately guitars are tools and the better tool depends on what kind of job you want to do. When recording, I've had an old Harmony be the best guitar I own for getting the particular tone I wanted on the recording. However, for the next track the Harmony might be the worst guitar I own for accomplishing what I want to do.
So, if you want to compare guitars, give us a little more guidance and I bet opinions will fly like hailstones. take care, SB |

| Better or worse depends on who is playing it. It all comes down to ownership and what suits the player. I can't touch a light string Fender without making it sound out of tune, but give me a Les with mediums and I can stomach what I play. Looking at both guitars you can't go wrong with either top of the line models, and as noted sometimes the best guitar is what is needed for the song. I like playing the Les to mimic Zep, but opt for my fender when playing Hendrix, and unfortuantely can't go to a PRS yet, but love playing them. |

Hello, among a number of guitars I use on stage, I have both a stock PRS Custom 22 and a stock 3 PU Les Paul Stnd. Both have their unique tone, and are wonderful instruments. Here's my opinion (only) of some of the differences. Due to my style and use of the volume control, the PRS volume pot is much more accessible and controllable. Like a Strat, you can reach it with your pinky while playing. The control seems much more linear, as compared to every Gibson I've owned where the volume seems to go from zero to wide open in a quarter turn. On the other hand, it's much easier to control the pickup switch on the LP, vs. the 5 position rotary switch on the PRS. It seems like I always have to 'think' when switching pickups on the PRS.
The PRS seems to have a slightly brighter more defined tone, due to both pickups and body/wood. It's also lighter than the LP... easier on the shoulder. Access to the upper frets is also easier on the PRS due to the body style.
Is one better than the other? It's all personal preference. I use them both for different tunes, however in general I lean towards the PRS. |

Les Paul looks way cooler, you look a bit of an elitist poncey sap with a PRS round your neck, hey it's just my opinion, PRS is more a piece of funiture than a musical instrument, i lost all respect when that silly 'Dragons' thing was launched.
And Mike Oldfield plays one, that just about says it all. |

| Like two good women it would be hard to kick either out of bed! Funny thing is I don't hear many people boasting about their Strats and Teles. They are easy to play, have great sound depending on quality of pick up, and have a greater radius on the neck making picking a little easier, but when it comes to power chords you can't crush them as well. |
